Our Mission
Modern Odyssey Media, LLC is an independent full-service publisher of travel and adventure digital media. We provide high quality products to our customers, a collaborative experience for our authors, and an entrepreneurial and challenging environment for our employees. Our goal is to provide an alternative channel for passionate travelers to share their works.
Why Modern Odyssey Media?
Modern Odyssey Media is a full-service publishing and media company. We work closely with authors to edit their work to make it the best product it can be, as well as designing and executing a marketing plan to ensure the most widespread and effective distribution.
Modern Odyssey Media is not a self-publishing company. Although self-publishing is a growing trend, there are two key drawbacks with this approach. First, self-published books are not always properly edited for content and grammar - resulting in poor quality, negative reviews, fewer sales, and an unmemorable reading experience. Second, there is nobody overseeing a comprehensive sales and marketing plan for the work to maximize sales potential. The large online bookstores, the channel most accessible to the self-published author, are just one distribution channel. A publisher has access to other channels that may not be readily available directly to authors.
The large publishing houses consider ebooks secondary to traditional print. Modern Odyssey Media is built around digital media. This is our sole focus.
Focus on Ebooks and Digital Media
The proliferation of electronic book readers (ereaders) and portable display devices is causing a cultural shift toward increased acceptance of electronic media. The Association of American Publishers (AAP) estimated that US net sales of ebooks in one year (August 2009 to August 2010) grew over 172%.
There are several factors driving the increase in demand for digital media:
- Decreasing cost and increasing capability of ereaders
- Easy access to ebooks via online bookstores and websites
- Faster time to market for new literary works
- Use of ereading devices for content other than books, i.e., magazines, newspapers, comics, and business documents
